The release of the new Java EE 6 Platform in December 2009 has further enhanced the language.

» A more flexible technology stack – Java EE 6 introduces the concept of profiles – (i.e., the new Web Profile, a subset of the platform designed for Web application development) – to make the platform easier to develop enterprise and web applications.
» Enhanced extensibility – Java EE 6 makes more use of extensibility points and service provider interfaces as well as Web-tier features to make the platform highly extensible.
» Ease of development – more use of annotations, POJO model, streamlined EJBs, pruning of the extensive APIs, and simplified packaging capabilities (EJBs can now be packaged directly in WAR files instead of creating separate JAR files).

Enhanced APIs:
» EJB 3.1, Servlets 3.0 & JSF 2.0
» Java API for RESTful Web Services (JAX-RS)
» Java Persistence API (JPA 2.0)

The Java EE 6 Workshop
These workshops are taught by Java EE 6 Engineers – the developers who work on the actual APIs and Specifications – and are aimed at programmers and developers who want to become experts in the use and development of Enterprise and Web applications, using the Java EE 6 Platform.

Who: Roberto Chinnici is the Java EE platform lead at Oracle. He was the specification lead for the Java EE 6 platform at Sun Microsystems. Previously he led the ease of development initiative for Java EE 5 and was the spec lead for the JAX-WS 2.0 and JAX-RPC 1.1 APIs. He also represented Sun in the W3C and WS-I organizations.
What: An Overview of Java EE 6
Abstract: In this talk we present a comprehensive overview of the Java EE 6 platform, including the Java EE 6 web profile. After explaining the high-level goals for Java EE 6, we'll discuss the contents, with particular focus on the ease of development improvements in this release. We'll introduce the many new APIs in Java EE 6, such as JAX-RS, CDI and Bean Validation. Demos will showcase the support for Java EE 6 in NetBeans and Eclipse, as well as the GlassFish Enterprise Server.
